World Mental Health Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is the perfect time to discuss mental health issues in the workplace.  Issues in the workplace are at an all-time high.  It’s a fact that women in full-time employment are nearly twice as likely to have a common mental health problem as full-time employed men.  I do wonder whether this is because women talk about things more than men and therefore their mental health struggles are noted, whereas men tend to hide things. What are your thoughts?

Some ways to reinforce a healthy mindset in the workplace are:
  • Make sure to have a good work/life balance, don’t allow work to affect you in your out-of-work time.
  • Make a to-do list to ensure you finish things off before home time.  This way you can leave work with a clean slate and won’t be worrying about things.
  • Make sure to communicate with your colleagues, a simple “how are you?” doesn’t always give a full picture of someone’s mental health.  Regular catch-ups are ideal for this.
  • Make sure to step away from your desk, even if it’s just for a minute to make a drink, or go for a walk on your lunch break.
