Going back to work and the cost of living


Well here we are in September, hasn’t the Summer just flown by?! Children will be going back to school, and there will be a lot of Mums returning back to work.  Are you one of them? Hopefully, we can help you with your job search.

With the rising costs of everything at the moment, looking for the right job role is essential.  We are already noticing that candidates are happier to work in the office again now rather than at home because of the energy costs.   If you are working at home all day and using your own electricity/gas/internet etc this is really going to make an impact on your salary.

We are also noticing the rise in candidates applying for lots of different job roles and then realising at the interview stage that maybe the role isn’t for them.  It is important to think about what motivates you, and what you want out of a job role.  Is it money? Benefits? Holidays? Duties? Hours? Which of these is the most important aspect of a new opportunity?  It’s good to write a list of the things you want in a role and then work from this when applying, this saves your time and the employer’s time further down the line.

Also, something to think about is interview dress codes, things have changed a lot since COVID and the need to go to an interview fully suited and booted isn’t required any longer.  As long as you are smart, and don’t turn up in jeans or tracksuit bottoms, that is what is important.  Ensure you know what you are going to wear, maybe have an outfit that you keep aside just for interviews so you know you feel comfortable.
